The Holocaust was the mass murder of Jews under the German Nazi control during 1941 to 1945. It was
during World War II. Hitler was the main leader of starting the Holocaust. By 1945 two out of every three European Jews had been killed. Hitler felt as if the blonde hair blue eyed or "Aryans" were better than everyone else. Hitler and the Nazis wanted to exterminate the Jews. Even though the Holocaust was mainly Jews, 250,000 mentally or physically disabled were a part of this genocide also.
The Holocaust consisted of concentration camps mostly in Germany and Poland. The concentration camps were very brutal. The Jews shared one bunk with at least 7 other people. Everyone was cramped in the little shacks in the camps. The only food that recieved daily was a stale piece of bread or "soup". The soup was more like hot water with a couple grains of rice; if you were lucky enough maybe a vegetable or tiny piece of meat. They were fed three times a day , but not of much quantity. The labor and working conditions in the concentration camps were extremely harsh. They worked an average of eleven hours each day. People were executed at first by shooting them to death in pits dug up near the camps. Later on they began executing people by posion gas and putting them in the gas chambers. Besides shooting or the gas chambers prisoners were hung in public. The goal of hanging in public was to intimidate the witnesses. As you have read living was nothing we can imagine, now.
After the holocaust ended in 1945 survivors faced the task of rebuilding their lives. More than 80,000 survivors immigrated to the United States. Many people were killed from the holocaust, numbers around eleven million. Lives were changed for everyone. Th survivors will never be the same after this had happened. Some people are in denial that the Holocaust even existed. But we all know that is not true.
